New research center is launched to drive a just and inclusive energy transition

The proposal is to contribute to the development of a National Plan in three priority areas

FGV Clima, a new research center launched by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in partnership with iCS and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), will play a crucial role in the development of the National Plan for Energy Transition. The initiative will explore three main thematic areas: Legal and Regulatory, Economic and Financial, and Social. The studies will be essential in order to formulate a robust strategic plan, based on consolidated scientific knowledge.

The launch event marked the beginning of the strategic collaboration between iCS, the MME and the FGV. At the event, Walter Figueiredo De Simoni, the manager of Climate Policy at iCS, recalled the urgency of the matter and the importance of a transversal approach to tackle the climate crisis:

“Today, the climate crisis is present in people’s lives. Who has not observed the increase in climate disasters? Who has not observed the increasingly frequent heatwaves? We have left the theory behind and now we need to seek the implementation of actions to combat the climate crisis,” said Simoni.

The partnership seeks the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge as tools for a dialogue about the climate problems and possible solutions, as well as engagement with society. Consequently, the center will act on two fronts: as technical support and with the development of strategies that can assist in a just and inclusive energy transition.
