Revolusolar launches a platform with proposals about the just energy transition for city halls
Around 1 million people still do not have access to public electricity in the Brazilian Amazon
Revolusolar, an iCS grantee, has launched a platform with proposals about how the just energy transition and social solar energy can be applied at the municipal level. The objective is to show how municipal managers can contribute to a just energy transition that promotes social inclusion and sustainability, and at the same time provides economic benefits for everybody. The suggestions can be adopted by the city halls and serve as an instrument of accountability for the population.
The energy transition is at the center of the global discussions. Brazil, with its vast capacity to generate clean and renewable energy, has the opportunity to lead this transformation inclusively and sustainably. With the tool of Revolusolar, the municipal government can take on this role and support the country. City halls that position energy transition as a priority in their government programs can not only reduce their costs with electric energy, but also generate profound changes in their communities by reducing energy poverty, improving the quality of life of the population, generating jobs and income, and cutting municipal costs.
In 2023, a decree established the implementation of solar energy in homes with the My House, My Life program. This was an important step towards energy transition in Brazil. However, new actions are imperative in order to achieve clean, accessible and democratic energy in all the country.
Feel free to participate: learn about the campaign and ask for the proposals to be included in the government plan of your local municipality. Just Energy Transition (revolusolar.org.br)
